The Florida Breweries Report – January 2020

Florida breweries had 5.45% more taxpaid sales in January 2020 versus January 2019, but taxpaid sales per brewery dropped 3.61% in that same period.

Monthly Highlights

  • The Florida Breweries Report reflects data published by the Florida ABT, which is available online here. The ABT monthly publishes the taxpaid sales for each brewery and distributor. Unfortunately, the ABT does not publish breweries’ sales to distributors. This means that the Florida Breweries Reports reflects only breweries’ taxpaid sales, which are generally made in its taproom.
  • Two new Florida breweries in January 2020: Sanford Brewing Company (Maitland) and The BrewCraftery (Land O’ Lakes).
  • No Florida brewery upgraded from a brewpub license (CMBP) to a production brewery  license (CMB) in January 2020. Breweries with a CMB license can start fill growlers, sell bottled or canned products for consumption off premises, and sell to licensed distributors. Where a brewery upgrades its license, the tables below denote the CMBP license with * and the CMB license with ^.
  • In January 2020, the total number of licensed breweries stood at 376. Of those, 362 breweries reported taxpaid sales in January.
  • Month-to-month taxpaid sales dropped by 2.44% in January 2020. Total taxpaid sales during the rolling last-twelve-months (LTM) rose by 0.93%. Compared to January 2019, LTM taxpaid sales were up by 5.45% in January 2020.
  • For reporting breweries, the average taxpaid sales per brewery in January 2020 was 26.12 barrels, a monthly decrease of 0.36 barrels per brewery.
  • In January 2020, Florida breweries’ taxpaid sales accounted for 0.85% of all beer sales in Florida (8.5 out of 1,000 beers sold).
