The Florida Breweries Report – February 2020

In the month prior to Florida’s executive order closing brewery taprooms, monthly taxpaid sales reached their highest level since July 2019.

Monthly Highlights

  • The Florida Breweries Report reflects data published by the Florida ABT, which is available online here. The ABT monthly publishes the taxpaid sales for each brewery and distributor. Unfortunately, the ABT does not publish breweries’ sales to distributors. This means that the Florida Breweries Reports reflects only breweries’ taxpaid sales, which are generally made in its taproom.
  • Five new Florida breweries in February 2020: History Class Brewing Company (Panama City), Oil Well Craft Beer (Ava Maria), The Kelsey City Brewing Company (Lake Park), Commerce Brewing (Largo), and Front Page Brewing Co. (Bartow).
  • Emerald Republic Brewing Company upgraded from a brewpub license (CMBP) to a production brewery  license (CMB) in February 2020. Breweries with a CMB license can start fill growlers, sell bottled or canned products for consumption off premises, and sell to licensed distributors. Where a brewery upgrades its license, the tables below denote the CMBP license with * and the CMB license with ^.
  • In February 2020, the total number of licensed breweries stood at 384. Of those, 361 breweries reported taxpaid sales in February.
  • Month-to-month taxpaid sales increased by 2.06% in February 2020. Total taxpaid sales during the rolling last-twelve-months (LTM) rose by 0.46%. Compared to February 2019, LTM taxpaid sales were up by 4.71% in February 2020.
  • For reporting breweries, the average taxpaid sales per brewery in February 2020 was 26.85 barrels, a monthly increase of 0.62 barrels per brewery.
  • In February 2020, Florida breweries’ taxpaid sales accounted for 0.96% of all beer sales in Florida (9.6 out of 1,000 beers sold).
